CUMBERLAND — Fort Hill scored a touchdown on its first six possessions en route to a dominating 55-0 win over Southern Friday at Greenway Avenue Stadium.

The Sentinels (5-1) entered Friday’s matchup averaging 47.4 points a game and they nearly hit that mark in the first half alone as they carried a 42-0 cushion into halftime.

Fort Hill sophomore Breven Stubbs scored four touchdowns, two rushing, one receiving and one on a punt return.

The Sentinels tacked on 13 points in the second half. On the other side of the equation, the Rams (1-5) lost for their fifth straight and have allowed 45 points per game during that skid.

Fort Hill totaled 349 yards in 16 minutes with the football. The Sentinels opened with four touchdowns in the first quarter and finished with a touchdown in all four quarters.

The Sentinels also put forth an impressive defensive effort as it held the Rams to 129 total yards with two interceptions.

“A lot of the hidden aspects of football are defense and special teams and I thought our special teams were really good tonight,” said Fort Hill head coach Todd Appel. “Our whole mantra this week was to get better defensively.”

The Sentinels had seven scoring drives — not including a punt return for a TD — and four of those drives started inside Ram territory. Fort Hill also allowed Southern past midfield only once and limited the Rams to six first downs.

Stubbs scored the first touchdown on a 41-yard run. He started toward the Sentinel bench before cutting it across the field and finding the end zone quickly after the move.

He scored again on the Sentinels second possession as he caught a pass from Danny King and outraced the Ram defense for a 69-yard touchdown.

Stubbs hit the trifecta when he took a 32-yard punt 53 yards to the end zone after Southern couldn’t produce much on its second possession. Stubbs fielded the punt at the 47 and weaved his way through traffic and broke half a dozen tackles en route to the score.

Fort Hill made it 28-0 when King jumped over the line of scrimmage for another touchdown in the first quarter with 3:29 showing.

Colby Satmyire pushed the lead to 35-0 when he pushed his way into the end zone from three yards out early in the second quarter. Stubbs scored the final touchdown of the opening half on a sweep as he started up the middle and shifted to his left for a 17-yard scoring run. The Sentinels led 42-0 at the break.

Fort Hill scored on its first possession of the third quarter beginning inside Southern territory as Blake White capped the drive with a five-yard TD run for a 49-0 lead.

The Sentinels’ final touchdown came on a 14-yard pass when backup quarterback Daniel Stuby found Alex Looker midway through the fourth for a 55-0 lead.

King needed just two completions for 108 yards with one touchdown and he added one on the ground.

While Fort Hill dominated in most statistics, Southern’s Jacob Nazelrod led all players with 71 yards rushing on 17 carries. Cole Baker added 39 yards on 11 carries, while Declan McCaan ran for 19 on eight attempts.

On Friday, Fort Hill will return to Greenway against Silver Oak Academy and Southern hosts rival Tucker County Both games will kickoff at 7 p.m.
