Fort Hill pounds Mountain Ridge
Sentinels run for 395 yards

FROSTBURG — Tyreke Powell and Logan Johnson combined to rush for over 251 yards and score three touchowns as Fort Hill rebounded from last week’s loss to Friendship Collegiate in handling Mountain Ridge 49-3 Friday night at Miners Stadium.

Powell ran for 131 yards on five carries with two touchdowns and Johnson ran for 120 on 12 attempts and one touchdown. Troy Banks gained 75 yards on eight attempts and scored twice as the Sentinels ran for 395 yards and gained 436 overall. The defense stymied the Miners, holding them to 195 yards, 104 on the ground.

Fort Hill led 20-3 at the end of the first quarter on Johnson’s 61-yard run and an 18-yarder by Banks. Ryan Hipp made both extra points for a 14-0 lead with 4:55 left in the quarter.

Mountain Ridge’s Trevor Ritchie connected on a 47-yard field goal before Powell broke free on a 54-yard run. Hipp’s kick was blocked.

The Sentinels took control of the game with a 22-point second quarter. Braeden Askins scored the next two touchdowns on runs of nine and 15 yards, the first with 10:37 to play before halftime and the second came with 7:19 to go. Walker Appel hit Caleb Harden on the two-point attempt after the first score.

Banks 1-yard run and Hipp’s second extra point of the quarter gave Fort Hill a 42-0 halftime lead.

Powell’s second touchdown, a 43-yard run with 1:40 to play in the third quarter, was the only score of the second half.

Tristen Pinto ran for 56 yards on 16 carries for Mountain Ridge, giving him 1,012 in nine games. Alec Deremer 6 of 18 passing for 91 yards with Brant Hughes catching four of them for 69 yards.

Mountain Ridge (4-5), who recovered two fumbles and lost one, visits Keyser on Friday. Fort Hill (8-1), which had 60 yards on six penalties to the Miners’ 2 for 20, hosts Allegany on Saturday for their annual Homecoming game.
