Fort Hill cruises against Carrick

PITTSBURGH — Ty Johnson and Dekarai Darr combined to gash Carrick for 307 yards rushing, leading Fort Hill to a 42-12 victory at Carrick on Friday night.

Johnson averaged 32.6 yards per carry and Darr averaged 20.7.

Johnson ran 69 yards for a touchdown on the Sentinels’ second offensive play. Chris King made the PAT. They continued to move the ball on their first quarter possessions, with their next drive ending in a fumble and the following drive resulting in a missed field goal.

Fort Hill (4-0) took a 14-0 lead on the second play of the second quarter on a four-yard plunge by Darr.

Carrick turned it over on downs, leading to another quick strike, a 52-yard sprint down the left side by Johnson to make it 20-0. The Sentinels came up with a goal-line stand on the ensuing drive and then Darr ran 92 yards on the next play. Johnson ran in the conversion to give the Sentinels a 28-0 advantage at halftime.

Fort Hill totalled 418 yards in the half to Carrick’s 89.

Hunter Squires led an up-tempo, no huddle passing attack on the opening drive of the third quarter. He went 3-for-3 with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Devin Shreve. The Sentinels continued to throw on their next possession but the drive ended in a 60-yard interception return for a score by Keith Davis to cut the lead to 35-6.

Marsay Howard picked off a pass on Fort Hill’s first drive of the fourth. That set-up a three-yard score by Joe Kalsek to make it 35-12. Cody Dolly piled on with a six-yard run with 2:18 remaining.

The Sentinels won handily on the road despite two interceptions, losing two fumbles and committing eight penalties for 75 yards.

Carrick’s defense allowed 554 yards and didn’t force a punt.

The Raiders lost a fumble and went 0-for-2 on fourth down. They ran for just 58 yards with Kalsek accounted for 45. Quarterback Davon Cruse completed 10-of-14 passes for 118 yards.

Fort Hill plays at Central on Friday.
