CUMBERLAND — Garrett Clay rushed for 86 yards on seven carries, scored three touchdowns and intercepted two passes in little over a half of play to help the undefeated Fort Hill Sentinels win their sixth game in a row with a 54-0 victory over the Maryland Academy of Technology and Health Sciences (MATHS) of Baltimore Saturday night at Greenway Avenue Stadium.

Beginning from the 36 on the opening possession, the Sentinels used 10 plays to move into MATHS territory before surrendering an interception on fourth down, which the Panthers returned into Fort Hill territory. The Sentinel defense, though, forced a punt and the offense took over at the Fort Hill 35.

Garrett Clay picked up 23 on first down, followed by a gain of nine by Lance Fullwood before Ryan Briner picked up 23 to put it at the MATHS 11. Two plays later Fullwood took it in from the eight for the touchdown at 3:54. The Sentinels did not get the kick off on the extra point attempt.

The Sentinels took over again at their 32 and put together a five-play, 68-yard scoring drive with Garrett Clay going in from 22 yards out at 11:30 of the second quarter. The pass for two points failed and Fort Hill held a 12-0 lead.

After an interception return by Jaron Watkins put the ball on the Fort Hill 31, the Sentinels needed just three plays to score, with Garrett Clay getting his second touchdown on a 10-yard run. The pass for two again failed and Fort Hill led 18-0.

The Sentinels then blocked a MATHS punt to take possession at the Panthers 19, but could not capitalize as Cullen Brown missed a 31-yard field goal attempt.

Garrett Clay, however, intercepted a pass at the MATHS 36, and after he took a screen pass for a gain of 10, quarterback Mike Austin picked up a first down to the 15 on two carries. Garrett Clay then took a another quick screen and got into the end zone at 4:06 of the half, with Brown’s kick making it 25-0.

Garrett Clay then picked off his second pass of the night and returned it 43 yards to the MATHS nine, with Ryan Briner going in from four yards out at 2:23 with Brown’s kick putting it at 31-0.

MATHS turned the ball over on downs at the Panthers 38 with 1:21 left in the half.

After a loss of 12 on a sack and a false start put the ball at the Fort Hill 45, another sack of Austin set up a third-and-33 from the Fort Hill 39. Fullwood picked up 10 before the Panthers were hit with a horsecollar call, setting up Austin, on a busted play, finding Garrett Clay all alone at the MATHS 10 to set up a first-and-goal at the two.

The Sentinels, however, lost a fumble with nine seconds left in the half. With four seconds left, though, MATHS quarterback Kenyonte Mason was sacked in the end zone to make it 34-0.

Fort Hill, which had 18 first downs, rushed for 226 yards in the first half on 30 carries and passed for 61 more for 289 yards of offense.

The Fort Hill defense forced a three-and-out on MATHS’ first possession of the second half, and when the Panthers’ punter couldn’t handle the snap, the Sentinels took over at the MATHS 19. After Jaron Watkins picked up 15 yards on the first play, he finished off the two-play scoring sequence with the four-yard TD run to make it 40-0 and start the running clock under Maryland’s 35-point rule.

Fort Hill’s second team offense then put together a scoring drive, getting the ball to the MATHS 10 on a 15-yard completion from quarterback Travis Bush to tight end Garrett D’Atri. Two plays later, Dillon Darr plowed into the end zone for the touchdown as the third quarter came to a close.

The final touchdown came when Sentinels running back Cody Arigo scored from eight yards out.

Fort Hill will host Southern Friday night.
