FH slams Silver Oak

CUMBERLAND — Kwam Kassim scored a pair of first-quarter touchdowns and top-ranked Fort Hill substituted freely from the get-go in a 49-6 victory over Silver Oak Academy in high school football Saturday night at Greenway Avenue Stadium.

The Sentinels, 5-0 and No. 11 in the MDVarsity.com state poll, led 21-0 after the first quarter and 42-6 after a big first half in beating Silver Oak, of Keymar, which replaced Germantown (Pa.) Academy on the Sentinels’ schedule earlier in the year.

The Fort Hill special teams provided the first touchdown as Joe Howser stormed the line to block a Silver Oak punt early in the first quarter. Garrett Dolly scooped up the ball inside the Rams’ 5-yard line and scored. Phil Giugliano, 7-for-7 on extra-point kicks, made it 7-0 just 2:17 into the game.

Kassim got the next two touchdowns, on three-play scoring drives.

The first, a 17-yard run, came after a 41-yard run by Sam Walker. The second came on a 16-yard pass from Devin Lee, and was set up by a 41-yard reception by Walker.

Shawn Metheny scored on a 3-yard burst early in the second quarter to make it 28-0 before Silver Oak (0-3) got on the board. Shawn Groves hit Nathaniel Lawrence with a 52-yard pass play for the Rams.

The Sentinels lost a fumble on their next series, regained the ball on an interception by Dylan Clay, and then went 80 yards in seven plays. Metheny scored the touchdown on a 32-yard run for a 35-6 lead with 5:49 left in the half.

Todd Dicken teamed with Clay for the final score of the half, with Dicken hitting Clay with a 20-yard scoring strike fo a 42-6 lead.

The only touchdown of the second half, played with a running clock because of the 35-point mercy rule, came on a 1-yard run by Andy Wooton midway through the third quarter.

Fort Hill had 439 total yards, with 352 coming on the ground. Metheny led the running game with seven carries and 85 yards.

Graves was 11-for-18 for 125 yards passing and also ran 13 times for 65 yards for Silver Oak.

Fort Hill hosts Jefferson on Friday night.
